As increasing numbers of police forces and public sector departments adopt the Blackberry® smartphones for day to day operations, the need for technical, user-friendly accessories grows. For uniformed officers and professionals, the method of carry for these devices, traditionally held loose in a pocket or case, has come to the fore.
The challenge: to produce a range of holsters and pouches for the Blackberry® smartphones that will both reproduce the technical features of the executive Blackberry® holders and meet the duty requirements of police officers and emergency service professionals.
The solution: Price Western Leather Company (PWL) has used its proprietary material ‘Sentinex’ to form a range of Blackberry accessories that can attach to uniform belts and load carrying vests using a variety of ways (belt loops, KlickFast, or Buddy Lock for example) as well as afford a degree of protection for the device carried.
Sentinex was developed by the PWL design team to maintain the cost-efficiency of plastics with the longevity of leather. Sentinex is lightweight, holds its shape and is impervious to water. An additional strength of Sentinex is that it supports technical features such as spring-loaded pockets and pouch-mounted magnets.
The spring-loaded models (such as the W1320) present the top portion of the smartphone to the user when the top cover is opened. This allows even gloved wearers to easily deploy the phone with a minimum of fuss.
The magnets mounted in the rear of the pouches ensure that the device is put into ‘sleep’ mode when a device is put into the pouch. This maximization of battery life has been welcomed by officers testing the both the pouch and Blackberry devices in the field.
The PWL Sentinex for Blackberry® range also includes a reverse-mounted pouch that allows the device to be used while still attached to the wearer’s chest.
